Local Missions

The Hilltop Closet

The Hilltop Closet is a clothing ministry of Denmark Manor. The closet provides like-new clothing at no charge to anyone who may be living on a low income, those who have family emergency, persons whose lives have been interrupted by a house fire or flooding or at any other time where there is a need. Formed in 2006, the Closet is supported by both the congregation and the Penn West Conference. Donations of clothing come from the church and the community. We are always in need of children’s clothing and large or extra large sizes. Please, if you wish to donate clothing, make sure that it is clean, and that it is in excellent condition. Currently we are receiving spring and summer items. Volunteers are welcome as well.

Hours of operation:

2nd Wednesday of the month from 10:00AM-1:00PM and 4th Wednesday of the month from 6:00-8:00PM. The closet can be made available at other times if there is a pressing emergency. Call the church office at 724-744-4218. The church also collects food on a monthly basis for St. Barbara’s food pantry.

Treasures for Children

Every year during Advent Denmark Manor participates in the Salvation Army “treasures for children”. The Salvation Army provides ages of specific children and the congregation provides Christmas gifts. Each year, we play Santa for 40 children.

St. Paul Homes

St. Paul Homes is a ministry to seniors affiliated with the United Church of Christ. Our church receives an offering to benefit St. Paul homes when there is a fifth Sunday in the month. We also make Walker bags for elderly residents.

Hunger Garden in Madison, PA

The DMUCC Mission Team is once again working at the Hunger Garden In Madison, PA. This project is very worthwhile. A few facts about the garden are quite amazing. The garden was started 13 years ago by Mr Sarver but was not manned by volunteers. In 2005 Lyn Hunter took on the job as volunteer co ordinated of the garden after her retirement from teaching. Last year there were 22 trips made to the garden and 646 volunteers, some repeaters included in the count. The total poundage of produce was 22,519 and was to have fed 4,000 people. Among the volunteers are Girl and Boy Scout Troops, garden clubs, VA Hospital Cardiology staff of Oakland, Nurtition Co. employees, WCCC, St. Vincent and Seton Hill Colleges, Rotary Clubs, the Penn Trafford CAP Club and a variety of Christian Churches of different denominations. This is a much needed project in our community let's keep it going!

Global Missions

Annually, Denmark Manor hosts the annual CROP Walk. CROP, is an arm of Church World Service and is a way for communities to reach out not only to serve local needs, but also for the many needs around the world. The CROP Walk is sponsored by the Penn Trafford Ministerium. The next event will be in October 2008. This is an excellent opportunity to enjoy our beautiful Pennsylvania autumn and bring help and hope to a hurting world. 25% of the CROP funds raised are divided between St. Barbara’s Community Food Pantry and the Trafford Food Pantry. The remaining goes for world development, refugee resettlement, and emergency relief. Learn about Church world service here!

Hygiene Kits

Annually, Denmark Manor provides various “kits” for persons in distress, or for the world’s poor. The church has put together 34 hygiene kits and is no longer making these kits. If you would like to participate in this mission you can put together the following items and send them directly to Church World Service along with an additional dollar for handling. Thank you for your support!

Miscellaneous

On other occasions the church has made baby kits and school kits. You can put these kits together and send them directly to Church World Service by following the instructions at www.churchworldserver.org. Denmark Manor also tithes it’s offerings to the work of the Penn West Conference of the United Church of Christ, Our Church’s Wider Mission through One Great Hour of Sharing and other special offerings ( UCC Global Ministries). We support the Blackburn Center Shelter for victims of domestic violence, the Westmoreland food bank , and various fire departments in our community. Annually we sponsor our young people to attend Camp Living Waters
